Grand Egyptian Museum receives 3 international awards prior to official opening

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has received three international awards during its trial operation which began in October 2024.

The first was the Versailles International Award, which ranked the GEM among 2024’s seven most beautiful museums in the world for 2024. The award was granted by UNESCO in Paris, and is given to museums that have opened or reopened and highlight the values ​​of local heritage and environmental efficiency, with a positive impact on their environment.

In 2024, the museum also won the “Best Project” worldwide award for users of the International Financial Reporting Standards (FIDIC) model contracts, during the sixth annual FIDIC Users Awards ceremony held in London.

This award is the first of its kind for an Egyptian project.

The GEM also received the EDGE Advance international certification for green buildings, accredited by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, making it the first green museum in Africa and the Middle East.
