Govt report: jobless rates up to 13.4 percent in 3rd quarter of 2013

Unemployment moved up by 13.4 percent of the total workforce during the third quarter of 2013, up from 13.3. percent during the preceding quarter, a government report has revealed.
 
The report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), which covers the period from July to September 2013, noted that the increase in jobless rates can be attributed to a slowdown in economic activities during that period.
 
The increase in jobless rates accounts for 3.6 million unemployed people. That is 0.8 percent more than the preceding quarter, and 56 percent more than the same period in 2010.
 
The total workforce stood at 27.2 million during the second and third quarters of 2013, an increase of million individuals (4.2 percent) compared to the same period in 2010, according to the report.
