Govt official admits problems with wind energy project

Abdel Rahman Salah Eddin, executive chairman of the Renewable Energy Authority, has conceded there is truth to a report published on Friday by Al-Masry Al-Youm pointing to technical problems with a Spanish project to build a wind farm that will generate electricity for Egypt.

"There are problems with this project, but our position is clear. We told the Spanish company that it needed to fix these issues and verify the corrections with an expert," Salah Eddin said to Al-Masry Al-Youm. "The contracts signed with foreign companies guarantee that projects will be completed according to the technical specifications written in the contracts."

According to the chairman, the Renewable Energy Authority will not "overlook" any issues relating to the projects it contracts to foreign companies. Salah Eddin noted that the project still was under warranty.
