Govt to issue report on protecting Nile

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has finalized its report on procedures required to protect the Nile from encroachment and pollution.

Minister of Irrigation Hesham Mohamed Qandil said the report will recommend measures to protect major waterways, irrigation and sewage networks from pollution.

The ministry prepared the report in coordination with other concerned ministries and will submit it within days to the Supreme Council for the River Nile Protection headed by Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri, Qandil said.

The government is looking to step up its measures combating Nile pollution, particularly after the Irrigation Ministry determined causes of the river’s pollution and prepared a list of items that should not be transported on the Nile.
