Egypt's Foreign Ministry denied reports on Sunday that the US government had requested permission to send two units of special forces troops to protect the American and Israeli Embassies in Cairo.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Amr Roshdy, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Egyptian security services are able to secure all diplomatic establishments, embassies and foreign authorities located in Egypt.
The ministry's statement was issued in response to an article in the Al-Tahrir newspaper on Sunday, claiming that the US suggested sending the troops in light of attacks on the Israeli Embassy by Egyptian protesters over the weekend.
