Gov’t denies selling cancerogenic watermelon in markets

The Cabinet’s Media Center has dismissed as groundless news reports selling cancerogenic watermelon in markets nationwide.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the media center contacted the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, which totally denied such reports as bare of truth.

All the produce at the markets, including the watermelon, are fit for human consumption and free of pesticide and chemical remains, the center said.

The goods come under precise examination by quality assurance authorities in order to make sure they conform with quality standards, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the center pleaded with citizens not to follow rumors and get information from credible sources.

It, also, called on media outlets and social media users to verify accuracy and objectivity while dealing with news as well contacting bodies concerned before spreading news that may harm the reputation of Egypt’s produce exports.
