Gov’t denies damage to statues in Saqqara Antiquities Area

The cabinet’s media center denied on Tuesday what has been circulated on media outlets, claiming a group of ancient statues in the Saqqara Antiquities Area were damaged as a result of being displayed badly on a table in an inappropriate manner.

In a statement on Tuesday, the center said that it contacted the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry that refuted as baseless this news.

It made it clear that the Saqqara Antiquities Area and all its statues and artifacts are completely safe and secure.

It further underlined that the circulated video dated back to 2020 during the crisis of COVID-19, adding the Egyptian archeological mission were resuming the necessary restoration and excavation works and studies in an area in Saqqara.
