The Electricity Ministry has announced the new electricity prices for the 2015/2016 fiscal year. These changes were made in order to spare clients who consume less electricity from having unnecessary price hikes in their bills.
“There shall be no going back on gradually lifting subsidies from the well-off (consumers) over the next five years,” Minister Mohamed Shaker said Thursday.
Egypt adopted a fiscal plan in 2014 that would reduce subsidies from the energy sector over a period of five years as a means of bridging the budget deficit and cut expenditures. Electricity subsidies stood at more than LE22 billion in June according to the Finance Ministry.
