The cost of the digital controlling system, used to link traffic lights to each other, is LE260 million, according to Governor Galal al-Saeed, who added that 50 percent of the project was completed.
In a phone call with a talk show that aired on Saturday on the privately-owned TV channel CBC, Saeed said Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb has fitted 50 intersections with the technology in the downtown area of Cairo. Saeed indicated that the digital system has many advantages, such as recording traffic violations, adding that cameras will monitor the city 24 hours a day for security.
The whole project will be finalized before July in Cairo, he said, adding that it was established many years ago in many countries. He also said that the project will help arrest outlaws.
