The cabinet is discussing with the Interior Ministry the possibility of banning members of the former ruling National Democratic Party from running in the next parliamentary elections, according to security sources.
They added that the cabinet asked the ministry on 25 April to assess the powers of those members and their relations with the local councils.
However, Deputy Prime Minister Yehia al-Gamal denied the news. “I wish it was true,” he said. “Those members should be banned for having corrupted political life for years.”
