Giza Zoo’s orangutan Bongo dies from heatstroke

The Central Administration of Zoos announced the death of Bongo, 23, a male orangutan who lived in Giza Zoo.
 
Bongo died on Thursday morning from the hot weather, after doctors failed to save his life over three days, the Central Administration of Zoos said in a statement.
 
A commission of vet professors at Cairo University was formed to examine Bongo's body, carry out autopsy and prepare a report on the cause of his death.
 
A statement issed by the Giza Zoo said that he died of heatstroke after doctors failed to decrease his body temperature over the three days. It pointed out that scientific examination would be conducted on the animal to verify the exact cause of death.
 
Emergency has been announced to prevent the recurrence of the same incident with Titi, Bongo's female partner, said head of the Central Administration of Zoos Fatma Tammam.
