Giza-Shubra metro line out of order after cable theft

The trains of the Giza–Shubra metro line stopped on Saturday morning because the line’s electricity cables had been stolen.

A source at the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the theft at Mazalat and Shubra stations caused the metro line to completely stop operating at 9:30 am.

Metro maintenance and technical teams are currently working on operating a single track between Mazalat and Shubra stations only.

According to the source, trains will operate on the single track until new cables are installed throughout the entire metro line.

Metro stations became overcrowded as growing numbers of citizens waited for trains.
