Giza Metro Station reopened, Sadat Station to be reopened soon

While the Metro Authority opened Sunday Giza Metro Station for citizens, an official source also said Sunday that Sadat Metro Station will be reopened as well in hours.

The Minister of Transport Ibrahim al-Demairy had announced that both stations would be reopened and denied raising the prices of metro tickets. He also said a project to develop the infrastructure of the first line would be implemented soon.

Both Sadat and Giza stations have been closed since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy in 2013.

Recent statements by officials stated that citizens would be able only to use Sadat Station to change metros, but would not be allowed out on the street through the station located in Tahrir Square.

Officials argue the station had to be closed as protesters used the Sadat Station to amass in Tahrir Square during the 25 January revolution and 30 June protests.

The Metro Authority told Egypt Independent in April it would be open by the month of May, but has yet to be opened.
