The Giza Governorate has announced a complete closure of the Ring Road, heading from Menib towards Mariyutiya Junction and the Tourist Road, for a period of 30 days starting from Friday evening.
The governorate stated that this closure is part of the implementation of work to raise the girders for the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Axis by the executing company.
These girders measure 75 meters in length, 17 meters in width, and 12 meters in height, with each girder weighing 350 tons.
They will be installed above Mariyutiya Junction in both directions using nine large cranes due to the project’s scale and the nature of the work.
The governorate added that this necessitates the closure of the Ring Road in the direction from Menib towards Mariyutiya Junction and the Tourist Road.
Phase 1:
- First: Vehicles coming from upper Menib and wishing to use the Mariyutiya Axis surface to reach the Tourist Road will use an alternative route implemented by the company with a width of four lanes to the right of the surface that is currently being closed.
- Second: Vehicles coming from upper Menib and wishing to use the Mariyutiya Axis junction to reach the western curve will turn right at the entrance of the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Axis, travel for approximately 800 meters, then make a U-turn and return towards the ring road, then use the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Axis ramp leading to the Mariyutiya junction towards the western curve.
The closure and diversion works will take approximately 15 days.
Phase 2: Lifting and Installing Girders above the Mariyutiya Axis Junction Ramp and Exit:
This requires a complete closure of the entrance to the Mariyutiya junction for those coming from the western curve above the Alexandria Desert Road towards Menib, as well as the exit of the Mariyutiya Axis for those coming from Safat al-Laban areas towards Menib, for three separate days during the girder lifting process.
The alternative traffic routes will be as follows:
- First: Vehicles coming from the Wahat Road and 6th of October City will use the Wahat Road and then the Tourist Road towards Menib Ring Road.
- Second: Vehicles coming from the upper western curve above the Alexandria Agricultural Road and the areas of the 26th of July Axis and wishing to use the Mariyutiya junction exit that is currently closed will continue to travel on the upper western curve to the Wahat Road towards the Tourist Road and then to the Menib Ring Road.
The closure period will be three separate days and will be during the first phase of work.
Phase 3: Completion of the installation of the transverse girder and metal decking.
This will require a partial closure of the Mariyutiya junction ramp for those coming from Menib towards the western curve in order to install the transverse girder and complete the installation of the metal decking.
The partial closure works will last for approximately 15 days.
The Giza Governorate clarified that the Giza Traffic Department has coordinated with the executing company to provide adequate technical aids (lighting, flashing lights, speed bumps, directional and warning signs, etc.) to secure the work area, in addition to assigning the necessary traffic services around the work area to better facilitate the movement of vehicles.
