Berlin–German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said on Wednesday Egypt must respect the rights of its population, urging all sides to refrain from violence amid clashes between security forces and demonstrators.
"Basic human rights, civil rights, freedom of opinion and assembly and press freedom must be respected in Egypt," he said. "Respect for people and human rights is the best way toward stability.”
