General Prosecutor Abdel Megeed Mahmoud said investigations into Alexandria’s textile factory collapse will include property owners, district and factory operation officials, and those in charge of ensuring industrial safety.
Twenty-six factory victims were reported dead in the accident.
While inspecting the site, Mahmoud called on Alexandria Governor Adel Labib and officials from the governorate’s executive apparatus to review licenses granted to old buildings and factories in Alexandria. He argued that officials should not wait to receive complaints before executing inspection duties.
Mahmoud emphasized the governorate officials’ role in inspecting old structures for safety and license-related issues.
According to Mahmoud, the irregularity of building inspections threatens public safety. Mahmoud expressed dismay at victims’ deaths and cautioned against negligence that could cause similar accidents in the future.
