An official from the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Justice said on Thursday that the government is supplying a sufficient number of butane gas cylinders to the public.
Fathy Abdel Aziz, head of the ministry's surveillance and distribution department, said that the supply was increased by 35 percent before the Eid vacation, making the total number of cylinders distributed daily around 1.35 million nationwide.
All the governorates have surplus cylinders to be distributed among citizens, Abdel Aziz told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
He also added that the supply shortages are caused by citizens stocking up on extra cylinders, not by the ministry.
The ministry's operations division, according to Abdel Aziz, has not received any recent complaints about cylinder shortages.
Previous shortages have led to clashes, long queues and residents complaining that government officials have done nothing to curb the sale of cylinders on the black market.
