Garbage companies warned against hiring minors

An official from Egypt's New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) has threatened to terminate all contracts with waste collection companies if those companies are found to be hiring minors as garbage collectors.

The threat, made by NUCA official Adel Naguib, came after one company was found to be employing children to collect garbage.

According to Naguib, the heads of new municipal authorities have been ordered to warn all garbage collection companies that their contracts would be terminated if they hired children as sanitation workers.

Minister of State for Family and Population Moushira Khattab commended the decision, saying that the employment of under-aged minors as garbage collectors constituted a clear violation of the law.
