Gamal Mubarak, son of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, submitted a complaint to the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), a government rights watchdog, over the conditions of his father’s detention.
Mohamed Fayek, the vice president of the council, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the NCHR received the complaint from Mubarak’s lawyer Farid al-Deeb, adding that it was handwritten by Gamal Mubarak.
Gamal said in the complaint that the Tora Prison hospital is not appropriate for his father’s health condition and demanded that a delegation from the NCHR inspect the hospital to check his father’s health and daily circumstances.
Fayek told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the NCHR got the approval of the attorney general to dispatch a delegation to visit the prison’s hospital Saturday and to meet with Gamal, who is also imprisoned in Tora, to verify what was included in the complaint.
On 2 June, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly to 25 years in prison, the maximum possible sentence under Egyptian law, for doing nothing to stop the killing of peaceful protesters during the 25 January revolution.
