Funeral services were held Sunday morning for four Copts killed in sectarian clashes in the village of Naga Hassan on Friday.
The funeral was held at Saint Tawadros monastery in the village of Buyrat in the presence of thousands of Christians and Bishops from the Coptic Orthodox Church. Tight security was established around the monastery.
One Muslim and four Christians were killed in the violence, which also led to the burning of 23 houses belonging to Copts. Residents said that the incident was sparked by a dispute between the five victims, and that it did not have any religious or political dimension.
The incident comes amid a series of violent clashes between supporters and opponents of ousted president Mohamed Morsy in a number of governorates, which have led dozens to die or suffer injuries over the past several weeks.
