Fuel pumped to Gaza power plant after 50-day suspension

Industrial fuel will start being pumped to the only power station in the Gaza Strip which has been out of work due to the lack of fuel since the beginning of last November, said Raed Fattouh, head of the Committee to Coordinate with Israel for the entry of goods into the Gaza Strip

Pumping started Sunday morning through the Karam Abu Salemborder crossing, southeast of Gaza and the first tanker of diesel has already reached the power plant, according to Fattouh.

The plant is planned to pump 450 thousand liters on Sunday, and the process will continue in the upcoming days.

Sources within the energy sector expected the power station to return to work in the afternoon.

The energy authority in the Hamas government had announced in November the closure of the power station in Gaza due to lack of industrial fuel. This led to power outages for many parts of the Gaza Strip.
