The fuel pipeline supplying Upper Egypt with octane exploded Sunday morning for the second time in less than a week. People in the nearby area rushed to the scene to fill their jerricans.
The pipeline exploded near the Cairo-Assiut western desert road, close to Edwa city, Minya governorate. Security forces cordoned off the area, until maintenance workers arrive.
The same pipeline exploded on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations into the accident cited technical reasons behind the explosion — especially that heavy equipment was crossing through the area — ruling out any acts of deliberate destruction or vandalism.
