Muslim Brotherhood protesters clashed against pro-government forces and police this Friday in sporadic demonstrations across Egypt, resulting in injuries and many arrests.
The Ministry of Health announced in a statement that six people have been injured in clashes with Mohamed Morsy supporters against army supporters and police in Fayoum, Giza and Sharqiya until 3:30pm.
Two officers were wounded Friday after clashes broke out between supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsy and residents of al-Geish street in Abu Hammad, Sharqiya.
Muslim Brotherhood and Morsy sympathizers had set off on marches in the area as part of a fresh wave of protests declared by Morsy’s major political supporter, the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Armed Forces and the Interior Ministry.
A police sergeant guarding the area’s post office received a gunshot in the abdomen when the clashes broke out, while his assistant sustained a broken arm.
Police managed to disperse the protests and arrested three rioters.
Meanwhile in Suez, clashes also occurred between police and Brotherhood supporters after the Friday prayer in the streets of Ahmed Orabi, al-Geish and Medinah, all at the Arbaeen District.
Demonstrators blocked Ahmed Orabi with trash containers, which prompted police to intervene to reopen the street.
Gunshots were heard during the clashes. Police fired tear gas to deter protesters who replied with fireworks and stones.
Demonstrators had chanted anit-army and police slogans. Army and police forces arrested tens of the demonstrators.
Brotherhood loyalists also clashed with residents at Faisal Street in Giza after demonstrators chanted slogans against Sisi.
In Helwan, protesters hurled fire bottles at the forces which responded with BB shots and tear gas.
