Egypt’s General Syndicate of Nursing announced the death of the fourth nurse to fall victim to COVID-19 in Egypt.
The nurse, Awatef Abdel Sadiq Ahmed al-Barmawy, died on Friday at Zagazig University Hospital, a few hours after the the third nurse to die from the virus also succumbed, the syndicate announced.
This comes hours after the syndicate, headed by Kawthar Mahmoud, mourned the third victim, Ibtisam Abdel Fattah Ibrahim.
The syndicate announced that it will be giving LE2,000 to each nurse infected with the virus during the course of their work and LE20,000 to the families of those who die from the virus.
According to Mahmoud, about 50 nurses so far have caught the virus nationwide.
The syndicate also called on Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to return resigned and dismissed nurses to work during the coronavirus outbreak, to address the deficit of nursing staff in Egypt.
