The Egyptian government has proposed a license for the fourth mobile communications company, state-owned Telecom Egypt, at LE2.5 billion, and will offer licenses for landline phones to mobile carrier companies at LE100 million for each operator.
Telecommunications Minister Atef Helmy said in a press conference on Wednesday that the government also approved proposing licenses to construct and rent infrastructure at LE300 million.
Telecom Egypt, the only fixed-line operator, seeks to enter the mobile phone space through a fourth license. Three other mobile carriers are operating in Egypt including the Egyptian Mobinil, the Emirati Etisalat and the British Vodafone.
