Minya Security Director Osama Metwally ordered the arrest of 14 people accused of violent acts in clashes between Muslims and Copts in the villages of Badraman, Ebeid and Hawarta.
Metwally held customary reconciliation sessions in the villages and ordered tightened security measures to prevent more clashes.
Four people were killed in the clashes that erupted because of rumors of a relationship between a Muslim girl and a young Copt. A fifth person was found dead on Saturday in the Ebeid village but it was not clear yet if his murder was related to the incident.
