Forty people poisoned of street vendor’s syrup in Assiut

Forty people from the village of Deir al-Qusair in al-Qusiyya locality in Assiut governorate were poisoned after drinking a syrup from a street vendor.

Ambulances and police moved to the scene of the incident and the poisoned citizens were taken to Qusiyya Central Hospital.

According to investigations, forty people got sick from food poisoning after drinking syrup that was unfit for human consumption.

A medical source at Assiut Health Department said that the department head Dr. Mohamed Zein visited the victims at hospital as soon as the Health Department received a notification with the incident.

Forty people, including 30 children, were poisoned, the source said.

The source added that 15 people left hospital after receiving the necessary treatment.
