Former president’s health stable, says official

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s health became stable on Monday, according to Assistant Minister of Health Adel al-Adawy.

However, Adawy said Mubarak suffers from irregular heartbeats, chronic depression and senility.

He added that although the former president's degree of consciousness remains normal, he is highly panicked and does not get enough nutrition.

Adawy said that Mubarak rejects physiotherapy and refuses to leave his bed.

The former president is currently staying at a hospital in the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he has remained in detention since 12 April.

He faces charges of financial corruption, abuse of power and ordering the murder of protesters during the 25 January revolution.

Mubarak was supposed to move to Tora prison to join other former officials involved in corruption queries, but his medical team reported difficulties transferring him due to his fragile health condition.
