Former Ahram newspaper chairman dies

The former Chairman of Al-Ahram newspaper’s Board of Directors, Ibrahim Nafea, died on Monday in the United Arab Emirates after a battle with cancer.

Nafea, 84, underwent several surgical operations in Dubai, recently remoting a part of the Pancreas.

Nafea was born in Suez governorate in 1934 and holds a Bachelor of Law from Ain Shams University. After graduating in 1956, he worked a news editor for Reuters and the Egyptian Radio Authority. He then worked as economic editor for al-Gomhorya newspaper, before becoming chief editor for economics at Egypt’s Ahram newspaper.

He was promoted as the Ahram editor-in-chief and chairman of board of directors, as well as being selected Head of the Journalists’ syndicate for several sessions from 1985.
