The Foreign Ministry rejected US criticism on the newly-issued protest law that was ratified by Interim President Adly Mansour on Sunday. The ministry considered it to be a “clear intervention within Egyptian local issue, which is unacceptable from any country.”
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Badr Abdel Aaty responded on Tuesday to questions over Egypt’s stance towards the US secretary of department spokesperson, “It’s unacceptable that any country intervenes within local Egyptian affairs.”
He added, “It’s normal that all countries, especially major ones, pay attention to the development of a country like Egypt, but this does not permit the violation of certain lines or comment on decisions related to local issues.”
Abdel Aaty noted that all Egyptian embassies abroad were provided with a certified translation of the final draft of law.
A comparative study, according to Abdel Aaty, is being conducted between the Egyptian law and similar ones in other countries to identify the different points and show how the Egyptian law considers all factors ensuring peaceful protesting.
