Foreign Ministry to form working groups on Sudan and Libya

Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi has issued a decision to form three working groups to follow up relations with Sudan and Libya and improve management inside the ministry.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Menha Bakhom said the first working group on Sudan will focus on boosting bilateral relations and aspects of cooperation.

It will also support the Egyptian presence in South Sudan, Bakhom told reporters on Monday.

Egyptian MPs had earlier warned of strong relations between Sudan and Israel and considered South Sudan’s secession a blow to Egypt’s national security.

The second working group, according to Bakhom, will follow the Libyan crisis on a daily basis, as well as the condition of Egyptians there. It will help evacuate Egyptians as well.

Libyans started their uprising on 17 February to oust Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi. They have called on Egypt’s armed forces to intervene to protect the Libyan people against Qadhafi’s massacres and to play a role in imposing a no-fly zone on Libya.
