The three Egyptian football clubs Zamalek, Pyramids and Al-Ahly praised the decision of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) about postponing Egypt Club Tournament games to an unknown time due to security concerns.
A security source at Al-Ahly club said that the decision would solve the crisis recently aroused between Al-Ahly and Pyramids clubs after delaying their game in the 16th round of the Egypt Club Tournament to February 28.
The source added that the club’s board of directors sought for the implementation of equality between the clubs based on the EFA’s regulations.
Head of the Competitions Committee Amer Hussien clarified that he would meet the president of the EFA to set a new schedule for the Egypt Club Tournament, as well as the Egyptian League.
The EFA had made several modifications regarding the league matches, including exchanging a match between Al-Ahly and Pyramids that was scheduled to be held on February 28 with another match between the same teams in Egypt’s Cup.
This action sparked outrage from many football officials, particularly by Al-Ahly President Mahmoud al-Khatib, who criticized the decision in an official statement after an emergency meeting held on February 9.
Al-Ahly had continued insisting to play the normal league match with Pyramids FC according to the schedule released by the EFA. The EFA previously stated that any club that wouldn’t participate in the league would be firmly prohibited from playing in the African championships.
