Football association may name season after Sisi

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA)  is considering naming the current season after former defense minister and presidential candidate Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The EFA chief told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he would chair a committee to select a name for the current season, which is a yearly custom.

“It is not strange for the EFA to name the current season after Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, especially that the people owe him a lot after the 30 June revolution," Allam said, referring to the 2013 popular uprising that was followed by Sisi overthrowing former president Mohamed Morsy.

He said last year’s season was named “Martyrs League” in commemoration of the protesters who died during the 2011 revolution, as well as the victims of the 2012 Port Said stadium massacre.

Sisi enjoys media and popular support for overthrowing Morsy and is widely believed to possess the strongest winning chances during the upcoming elections set for 26 and 27 May.
