FM vows to act on Ethiopia dam crisis

Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr has promised Egyptians his government has a clear plan ahead of expected disputes surrounding Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam.

Egypt is working hard on the Nile issue, he said.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Luxembourg's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Jean Asselborn, Amr vowed Egypt would not let go of a single drop of water from the River Nile.

Amr assured reporters the World Bank could not approve funding for the dam project without Nile Basin countries signing off on the deal, calling on international organisations to hold true to relevant treaties and legal obligations.

Egypt's foreign minister also claimed his ministry would ensure the country's Nile supplies would not be adversely affected by the Ethiopian initiative.
