Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry plans to visit Sudan next week to hold a round of political dialogue, during which all issues of mutual concern will be raised and any misunderstandings will be solved, the minister said.
At a meeting with the Parliamentary Arab Affairs Committee and the heads of the committees of Defense and National Security, African Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Shoukry said Sudan is a natural extension of Egypt's security and relations between the two countries have continued throughout history.
The two countries have a common interest, said Shoukry, pointing out that relations between the two sides are based on mutual respect.
Shoukry mentioned that he was looking forward to visiting Khartoum last Saturday, but poor weather caused the visit to be postponed.
"Of course, Sudan has taken new measures different from past measures, but each country has the right, in accordance with its sovereignty, to take appropriate measures," he said.
The minister stressed that Egypt is working hard to provide the Security Council with information related to the phenomenon of terrorism, so that it can identify the countries that support it and finance its movements.
Shoukry stressed the need for cooperation between the international community in confronting the phenomenon of terrorism and achieving justice.
"Our position on Ethiopia is clear; we are not at war. Egypt is capable of defending its interests in the framework of building and establishing strong relations. We have no hostile intentions toward any country, but we are capable of defending our interests," the minister said on Egypt's stance toward Ethiopia.
The life of every Egyptian is directly and strongly connected to the waters of the Nile, he said.
Negotiations are ongoing in accordance to a legal framework and have not been hindered by anything so far, Shoukry mentioned.
