At a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce on Monday, Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy said that the problem with Qatar is complicated beyond the Al-Jazeera issue.
“Qatar should explain its stance to the Arab world,” he said. “We consider Qatar as a member of the Arab family.”
Fahmy stressed the importance of Egyptian-American relations. “But the Egyptian decision is independent and any state that relies on another for its economy loses its independence,” he said.
He also said that a high-profile government delegation is going to Sudan and Ethiopia to discuss the Renaissance Dam project. “Ethiopia’s need for electricity should not reduce Egypt’s share of water,” he stressed.
