FM hails patriotic role of Egyptian community in US

CAIRO, Sept 26 (MENA) – Foreign, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Minister Badr Abdelatty applauded the patriotic role of the Egyptian community in the US, describing its members as an important bridge for communication between the Egyptian and American peoples.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a gathering on Friday with members of the Egyptian community in New York, on the sidelines of his participation in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80), according to a statement by the foreign ministry.

The minister hailed the active role played by Egyptian expats for supporting the close ties between Egypt and the US, as well as their contribution to enhancing Egypt’s image within American society.

He also commended the fruitful participation of businessmen from the Egyptian expat community in Egypt-US Economic Forum, hosted by Cairo late May in coordination with the American Chamber of Commerce.

Abdelatty touched on the efforts made by the Egyptian state to take care of its citizens abroad and facilitate consular services; by digitizing more of them and launching new initiatives in cooperation with various state institutions to meet the needs of Egyptian expats and overcome any obstacles they may face.

The minister also emphasized the state’s keenness to maintain regular communication channels with Egyptians abroad, hailing the success of the 6th edition of the Egyptians Abroad Conference, Cairo hosted early August under the theme: “From Everywhere… Egypt is the Destination.”

In the same vein, Abdelatty urged Egyptian expats to comply with the laws governing residence and work in the US, warning that any violations could result in legal consequences, including fines, termination of residence, or deportation. (MENA)
