CAIRO, Sept 25 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty asserted Egypt’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Sudan, as well as its national institutions, topped by the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Abdelatty’s remarks came during his address at a high-level ministerial meeting on Sudan, held at the European Union Mission in New York, at the invitation of France, Germany and the European Union, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to end the humanitarian suffering caused by the ongoing conflict, strongly condemning the prolonged siege of the city of El Fasher, which has lasted for over 500 days.
He called for the immediate lifting of the siege and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2736 in this regard.
He highlighted Egypt’s longstanding commitment, since the outbreak of the conflict, to actively participate in all regional and international efforts aimed at ending the war.
He underscored the priority of halting violence and alleviating human suffering through practical and concrete steps, while emphasizing that Sudan’s future must be determined solely by its people, away from any foreign interference.
Abdelatty also asserted Egypt’s support for Sudanese civil and political efforts to overcome internal divisions.
He referred to the successful Sudanese Civil and Political Forces Conference hosted in Cairo in July 2024 as a key milestone.
He noted Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian role, having hosted millions of Sudanese citizens since the conflict began.
Egypt remains committed to facilitating humanitarian access to Sudan and providing full support to relief organizations operating in the country, he said.
It is also working to enable the voluntary return of Sudanese citizens to their homes and communities once conditions on the ground improve. (MENA)
