Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy has said Egypt is ready to play a mediating role between Iran and Gulf countries, providing Iran shows sincere commitment to peaceful rapprochement.
Gulf security is part of Egypt's national security concerns, Fahmy stressed.
Fahmy said the relationship with Qatar was "abnormal" during an interview with Saudi news channel Al-Arabiya on Saturday, adding that dialogue between Egypt and Qatar would still take place.
The foreign minister claimed that his country would not accept U.S. interference in Egyptian national security, at the same time stressing his desire to improve relations with Washington after months of rocky relations.
"Quite frankly, we seek to manage the relationship with the U.S. in a good way and we will work on improving it, though Egypt will not accept dictats, especially when linked to national security," Fahmy claimed.
