FM affirms Egypt’s full support for efforts to achieve security, stability in South Sudan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts to achieve security and stability in South Sudan, highlighting the deep ties between the two countries and advancing the joint interests of the two brotherly peoples.

This came during Badr Abdelatty’s reception of Monday Semaya Kumba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, where the meeting addressed developments in bilateral relations and ways to strengthen ongoing cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

The two ministers emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the South Sudanese Foreign Minister’s visit to Cairo in December 2025, as well as the meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers on the sidelines of the African Summit in Addis Ababa.

Regarding the Nile River issue, Abdelatty stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and achieving mutual benefit among Nile Basin countries in accordance with international law, particularly the principles of prior notification, consultation, no harm, and rejection of unilateral actions.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Nile Basin Initiative and the ongoing consultative process to restore inclusivity, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination with South Sudan to strengthen prospects for consensus, preserve the river’s sustainability, protect its environment, and maximize its resources.
