The Giza Criminal Court on Saturday referred defendants to Egypt's grand mufti pending his approval of a death sentence over charges of forming a terrorist cell that masterminded attacks on police in 6th of October City, west of Cairo.
The court set 20 September for its verdict on two other defendants.
The prosecution accused the defendants of forming a terrorist cell, shooting dead a security guard of a church in 6th of October City and planning further attacks against police and army forces.
Death sentences in Egypt require approval by the grand mufti, whose opinion is largely non-binding.
