Five dead, 38 injured in car accidents due to severe fog

Five people died on Monday and a further 38 were injured in car accidents as a result of severe fog and mist which affected visibility along roads throughout the country.

The impacts of the fog went beyond roads and affected flights as well. A security source in Borg al-Arab International Airport said that the traffic control tower was closed from 5:00 a.m. due to the fog’s severe impact on air navigation. The control tower re-opened at 1:00 p.m. after visibility improved.

The General Directorate of Traffic suspended, on Monday, traffic movement on 26th July Corridor Road and al-Krymat Road, which connects Helwan with the Assiut Governorate, due to severe mist throughout the morning.

The Ferries Administration, which is affiliated with the Suez Canal Authority, also suspended movement of vessels in Port Said, Port Fuad, and banks of the Suez Canal, after fog affected navigation due to poor visibility across Suez Canal region.

Hundreds of people in their way to work or home stopped in streets until the fog started to vanish away.
