Five people were arrested for protesting in front of President Mohamed Morsy’s house in the prestigious Fifth Settlement neighborhood in Cairo late Sunday.
The Interior Ministry said the suspects, whom it described as rioters, had thrown stones at the forces stationed around the house and caused damage to a police motorcycle.
A group of residents of the area had assembled in front of the president's house to protest the repeated power outages and poor water services in their neighborhoods.
Forces assigned for the security of Morsy's home tried to disperse the protesters, “but they did not comply and attacked the forces" declared a statement released by the ministry late Sunday. This prompted the forces to “deal with them” to keep them away from the vicinity of the president’s residence, and to stop disrupting traffic, the statement said.
