First director of new National Security Department appointed

Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy on Sunday appointed Hamed Abdallah as the first director of the National Security Department, which was formed to substitute the notorious State Security Investigation Bureau.

Abdallah graduated from the Police Academy in 1972. He served in the Cairo Security Department as director of operations, and was later chosen as security director for the governorate of Helwan. Later, he became assistant minister for the northern sector of Upper Egypt.

He was born in Daqahliya and has been known for firmness throughout his career.
