Firefighters control Suez shipyard’s floating dock fire

Civil defense forces managed to control a limited fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon in the Suez Canal shipyard’s floating dock. No casualties or victims were reported.

Suez Security Director General Adel Rifaat told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the fire was caused by a spark that ignited the bitumen inside the dock during maintenance work, but that it was a limited fire that was immediately brought under control and extinguished after a number of civil defense vehicles were dispatched to the area.

In late July, the floating dock sank at the pier of Port Tawfik at the southern entrance to the channel. Employees took one month to lift out and repair it.
