Finance Minister Hani Qadri has said that the government hopes to reduce the budget deficit and debt to around 9.5 percent by 2017.
"The government started its work with 13-14 percent budget deficit," he said, praising aid by Arab countries.
The remarks were made during a conference entitled “Egypt.. way to future” organized by Akhbar Al-Youm press on Monday and sponsored by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb.
The minister added that the economy's management system now focuses on public interest, indicating that the government sticks to free market mechanisms.
