Finance Minister Samir Radwan on Wednesday announced his ministry set a new minimum wage for state employees at LE700.
Previously, the minimum wage for state employees was LE84 per month, set in 1984.
At a press conference, Radwan said the salary portion of the public budget will rise from LE95 billion to LE116.5 billion.
The Finance Ministry also increased the tax exemption limit for wages from LE9000 to LE12,000.
The Finance Ministry on Monday finished the necessary groundwork for restructuring wages and raising the minimum wage of state employees.
Sources expected the cabinet to approve raising the minimum wage to LE1200 over five years.
