Fierce clashs break out between security, Brotherhood students in Azhar University

Fierce clashes broke out on Sunday between security troops and students affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood on Azhar University campus, as students allegedly smashed the car of Azhar University President Osama al-Abd after he went to his office.

Police pursued the students after firing teargas into the crowd.

The administrative security personnel were able to prevent students from attacking Abd.

The students also protested outside the campus and blocked the adjacent road in protest against the dismissal of 62 students following the violent incidents that erupted in the university. They also shouted slogans against the police and military.

Female students from the protestors blocked Youssef Abbas and Mostafa al-Nahhas streets, which circle around the campus.

Security troops had earlier entered the campus at the request of the university administration to disperse the Muslim Brotherhood students who had been protesting since the morning.

Troops used teargas canisters and fired shots in the air to disperse the demonstrators. Police vehicles also entered the main university campus in Nasr City.
