Female police officers deployed in Cairo to combat sexual harassment

Female police officers were deployed by the Ministry of the Interior in a large number of areas during Eid al-Fitr holiday, especially in crowded areas in an effort to combat sexual harassment and violence against women.

The security directorates of Cairo and Giza have tightened security measures in areas that usually witness a high turnout of citizens on Eid al-Fitr, including Corniche al-Nile, downtown Cairo, and in the vicinity of cinemas, public parks, and Nile marinas.

Female police officers received intensive training to confront, control and paralyze the movement of harassers during arrest until they are brought to the nearest police station for legal action. They have been trained as well to deal with any form of breaking the law.

Female officers were notably present at the ticket windows of parks and cinemas where sexual harassment could possibly occur due to overcrowding.
