Fearing terrorist attack, downtown Cairo removes abandoned cars

Following the Alexandria terrorist attack on New Year's Eve, Egypt’s Interior Ministry on Wednesday intensified security measures in downtown Cairo’s main streets and squares.

All abandoned cars left parked in the street have been removed in the fear they could be laden with explosive material.

Also, the ministry stepped up its security presence in crowded places such as malls and movie theaters that could serve as terrorist targets.

The ministry took similar measures in all governorates.
